SHORT COURSE

Overview

This short two day training is a study of how we hear, how you must hear as an engineer and how to use audio equipment to best capture sound with any audio equipment available. it will include practical examples of microphone techniques, signal flow & gain structure, cables & connectors, loudspeaker placement, application examples and discussion on common issues faced with setting up a sound system in the ballroom, function halls, etc for conferences, dinner & dance events and many more other venues.
We will briefly touch on other topics like wireless systems, aux sends and monitor mixes, stage management & set up and people skills and workplace safety.

Course objectives

Enhance technical outcomes in the audio production, including basic system understanding, operations and engineering;
Provide a basic understanding of engineering theory and its practice;
Enhance technical troubleshooting and problem solving skills, and;
Provide a pro-active skill set that can adapt to the fast changing requirement and needs of audio system setups

Learning Outcomes

Identify, describe and explain audio fundamentals associated with signal flow, gain structure, microphones, loudspeakers, amplifiers, digital signal processing, setting up a sound system and basic mixing strategies.
Explain and apply techniques in a manner that displays practical and real-world understanding.
Demonstrate independent and creative engineering approaches to problem solving in the field of audio engineering.
Develop research skills and a critical understanding of audio engineering and its associated areas.

Workload

The information below is provided as a guide to assist participants in engaging appropriately with the training requirements.

This course consists of up to 16 hours of direct contact – 8 hours per day over 2 days for the tutorials and hands-on training, Where participants will play an active role in the practice, refinement and extension of their knowledge and understanding.

Teaching Modes

Tutorials

Tutorials will deliver a specific topic each week. The topic will consist of engineering theories, concepts and technologies in the field.
Tutorials provide an opportunity to discuss and ask questions about the weekly lecture and topic for the course; reinforce concepts, ideas and explore experiences.
Participants are required to be prepared to actively engage in discussion on the weekly topic.

Hands-on Training

Hands-on training will sometimes contain presentations from the instructor, the training will largely be an opportunity for students to obtain assistance with their practical development, using the training to raise issues and solve problems.
Finally, the hands-on training provide a forum by which students can begin to explore their own ideas and practice.
